SWITCH Conference is the event for the makers of tomorrow and one of the leading events in the European tech scene.
SWITCH was started in 2009, by a group of teens – lead by portuguese entrepreneur Ricardo Sousa. Their goal was to give a contribute for the growth of the at the time shy tech and entrepreneurial scenes in Portugal. SWITCH goals have always been to bring inspiring and experienced entrepreneurs, technologists, doers and creatives to educate and share ideas with the portuguese community.
Fostering innovation and entrepreneurship – even before it becoming a “buzzword” in Portugal – was always one of our main goals leading us to put together every year a Startup Competition aimed at bringing out of the shades some of Europe’s most exciting companies. Recently the Startup Competition has been organised in cooperation with the great team at Startup Pirates.
But talks is not our main thing. Amazing networking moments, experiences, city discovery trips and a lot of networking-focused actions are what we believe is our key differentiator Focusing not on big crowds but on quality networking, we hope all our participants, partners and speakers can connect with each other.
Now moving to it’s 4th edition, SWITCH is organised by a team of volunteers on a non-profit basis and has reached national and international recognition. Being named by WIRED UK Magazine as “One of the Top Tech Conferences in Europe” and for the 2nd year in a row making it to the “Top Tech and Entrepreneurial Events in Europe” of TechCrunch, SWITCH has grown and adapted over the years keeping it’s motto and goals.
Over the last four years, key people from companies such as Microsoft, Facebook, Google, The World Economic Forum, TechCrunch, WIRED and others as well as diplomats, inventors, creatives and rising starts have stepped on our stage and helped build our community.
More importantly, SWITCH has helped dozens of people, giving visibility to their projects, jumpstarting their careers helping close business deals, going further with their companies or even starting them. We like to let our attendees do the talk: “All this passion to create things started in 2011 when I heard Ji Lee at SWITCH”.
In 2013 SWITCH is being focused on the doer movement. Now under the umbrella of ColorElephant, SWITCH Conference remains a non-profit lead by volunteers. We want to have only doers on stage, we want to help the attendees start their own things rather than just hearing about other’s success. We’re creating a series of workshops parallel to the main event following SWITCH eternal aim of helping push the portuguese and european ecosystems.
